Hi guyshoneymoon-feedback

Just wanted to touch sides after our holiday in Mauritius. We were very impressed with the service given by Beachcomber from being met at the airport at our rather late arrival - 23h00 to being dropped off at another ghastly hour of 06.00 on Thursday. No. I'm not complaining, we knew all about the times and as we chose to go direct from Cape Town that was how it was.

The Beachcomber Le Canonnier was great and the Mauritian people all round were incredibly friendly and really took their tourism seriously. South Africa could learn a lot from them when it comes to service, dedication and enthusiasm but it was never 'in your face'. We were spoilt rotten on our anniversary with the elaborately decorated bedroom, the chocolate cake at dinner (after we'd already consumed 4 desserts!) I mentioned in reception that I liked the soap and would like to buy some and lo and behold, some bars were delivered to our room free and gratis.

The activities offered by the hotel were great so we were very happy. The weather wasn't brilliant but we understand it hasn't been great this year at all. It's such a tiny island that it's obviously affected by all the weather patterns around the area.

We certainly curtailed our drinking as, as you had advised us already, the prices were horrific. Over R50 for a local beer - on that basis we stuck to the carafe of wine each night. It wouldn't have paid us to have full board as we honestly couldn't have eaten lunch and all the other snacks on offer. For a family I would definitely consider the full package.

We hired a car for one day through Hertz and are still waiting for a refund on our credit card as they insist on taking 19,000 rupees for the insurance although we were willing to pay the insurance of 600+rupees up front. I still don't understand the system but there we are. We decided to take the catamaran trip through to Ile aux Cerfs through Mautourco and that was also very well organised. We weren't able to snorkel after all as the sea was too rough but that's luck of the draw. There was a big family on the cat with a 3 year old and a 16month old. They had been advised by the Mautourco rep from Le Victoria that the trip was suitable. Definitely not. They had a very frustrating time trying to keep tabs on the kids who were extremely well behaved. When I mentioned the disappointment to Sylvie, the rep at Le Canonnier her response was "oh, they usually keep them in a push chair". No, no, no, not possible (as you will know) This is an all day trip and involves a motor boat, cat, motor boat to the island, motor boat back, cat and another motor boat to the mainland. This is a trip to be recommended for 6 years and up.

Would we go back to Mauritus - no, I don't think we would as there are too many other places to go to but it's definitely a place worth visiting for 7 days. One couple we met were spending 3 weeks at 3 different hotels - great if the weather is brilliant and you just want to laze on the beach. We knew it was winter and took a chance.

Apparently Le Canonnier is being closed for 7 months next year for renovation so we hope it doesn't lose it's character.

Thanks for organising the trip for us and thanks to Beachcomber for their service.

Take care,

Best regards

Ann and Rod Buttle
