About Zilwa Attitude
The contemporary rustic chic architecture and Mauritian design of the hotel take their source of inspiration in the traditional homes or the seaside bungalows. The thatch, tin or shingle roofs, the wax-coated cement “béton ciré” floors, the rough walls, together with floated wood, raffia, ravenala*, ceruse and rattan furniture, are all reminders of the lifestyle of the island. A few “design” details here and there add to the special style and atmosphere of this hotel. Zilwa Attitude takes care of the national heritage by promoting and doing credit to Mauritian artists, writers, architects and craftsmen.
Built in an arc around a beautiful beach, Zilwa Attitude offers a breathtaking view of the 5 islands of the northern coast. A few meters from the shore, Gran Zil and Ti Zil, two very small private islands, invite guests to either relax and enjoy a delicious barbeque at lunch time or enjoy a massage at any time during the day.
The 214 rooms, some more family orientated, others quieter and slightly in the background for couples, have a rustic atmosphere and a contemporary charm. They have been thought and designed to match everyone’s expectations... In each category, they have their own identity and personality.
True to the hotel concept, guests can discover in any of the 6 restaurants, a delicious cuisine, blends of spicy and exquisite tastes, a culinary know-how acquired from the cultural diversity of the island. At dusk, comfortably seated in sofas and bean bags, feet buried in the sand, you can enjoy the peace and serenity of the tropical night and admire the magnificent moonrise over the silver lagoon… Zilwa Attitude invites you to share unique experiences inspired by local traditions. Time goes by slowly between a boat trip at sunrise, a Creole lesson, nautical and land activities and moments of well-being at Vilaz Masaz by Spa Attitude. Last but not least… all of Zilwa’s children will be delighted by the new mascot of the mini-clubs, our Mauritian Dodo. Slip on your “Dodo flip-flops” straightaway, go and meet the Mauritian people, experience the hospitality of our family members, share simple and genuine moments. At Zilwa Attitude, become an islander, a “Zilwa”…

The olden days bungalows, charming holiday homes built along the beach and the typical “boutiques” (Creole name for the last century grocery shops), are the main source of inspiration for the architecture and decoration of the rooms: wax-coated cement “béton ciré” floors, locally called “châlit”, rough walls, wood, coconut fibre carpets, driftwood mirrors and screens all beautifully crafted by skilled local workmen together with a few "design” details here and there.
Trendy bright colours; yellow, orange and red together with a few verses of poetry on the cushions, and "sirandanes”, naïve, fun, poetical and full of wisdom Creole riddles, written on the walls, liven up the uncluttered decoration. The paintings are inspired by the Mauritian writer and painter, Malcolm de Chazal.
Guests will be able to discover his work, among which the simple, naïve and almost real, colourful boats painted with gouache… an invitation to travel to faraway lands. The floors and tables in the bathrooms, which are extensions of the rooms behind bamboo screens, are also wax-coated cement “béton ciré”. The terraces are furnished with comfortable woven vacoa* seats with colourful cushions.
There are 3 main categories of rooms thought and designed to match everyone’s expectations: Superior, Family and Couple. Unique: In your rooms, waiting for you: The traditional “Dodo flip-flops”… those are ideal for strolling through the hotel during the day or visiting the island… *vacoas: textile fibre from the Vacoa ou « Pandanus utilis » used locally
